NHA approves construction of Lahore-Karachi Motorway

Wednesday, April 02, 2014 - Islamabad—The National Assembly was informed Tuesday that National Highway Authority has conducted survey and approved route for construction of Lahore-Karachi Motorway. Responding to a call attention notice, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad told the House that the approved route is the most suitable and will prove to be cost effective.

He said this motorway project is part of Prime Minister’s vision to improve communication infrastructure in the country. The House which transacted members private business, passed a resolution urging the government to take steps to improve and regulate Madrassah education.

Speaking on the resolution, Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad.Yusuf said the government is holding consultations with Ittehad-e-Tanzeemate Madaris to bring reforms in religious seminaries. He said over eight thousand seminaries are already providing contemporary education and the government is ready to facilitate other seminaries to introduce contemporary subjects in their curricula.

He said that negotiations are being held with the stakeholders to establish a Regulatory Authority for seminaries.

The House also adopted a resolution urging the government to impose immediate ban on telecasting of immoral programmes on private and public TV channels. Speaking on a motion, Parliamentary Secretary for Finance Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan said that every year an amount is allocated for grant of House Building Advance to the government employees. He said this loan is given to the employees on the basis of their seniority and length of service. He said every effort will be made to enhance this allocation in the next budget.

He said five hundred thousand low-cost houses will be constructed by the Federal Government as part of the PML-N’s election manifesto. He said similar schemes are also being executed by the provincial governments in which government employees will get preference.

Earlier, the members called upon the government to increase the amount of house building advance for the government employees.—INP
