LAHORE: An illegally constructed building on The Mall was demolished late on Wednesday night under Dilkash Lahore project. A town municipal officer and planning and coordination town officer have been suspended from service after they were found guilty in an inquiry.
According to the city government, more than 70 buildings have been constructed in connivance with town officers in the City division. The Dilkash Lahore Project began in October 2012 to restore the facades of historical building on The Mall. The owner of the building had obtained permission in January 2013 to restore the façade. Instead the two storey building was turned into a five storey building within five months. The owner also used two hallways for more than 200 shops. The construction stopped on September 19 when district officers ascertained that the construction was illegal. A team led by the spatial planning district officer then moved an FIR, action on which was hindered allegedly with the involvement of town officers.
