New bridge on Ravi approved


LAHORE

THE Punjab government on Tuesday approved construction of a new bridge on the Ravi river at a cost of Rs 798.34 million.

The approval was given in the 14th meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party of the current fiscal year, 2013-14, presided over by Punjab Planning and Development Board Chairman Muhammad Irfan Elahi.

An additional bridge over the River Ravi is for the metro buss services. Presently, the metro bus crosses the river through old bridge and the construction of an additional bridge was already planned for the metro bus.

However, the Punjab government had delayed it due to financial constraints and launched the metro bus service during the last financial year.

The Punjab government has also approved four other development schemes of energy sector, road sector, irrigation and P&D sectors at an estimated cost of Rs 29753.90 million.

The approved development schemes are: Sustainable Land Management Programme to Combat Desertification in Pakistan (Punjab) at a cost of Rs 342.68 million, Construction of Additional Bridge over River Ravi at a cost of Rs 798.34 million, Lahore Ring Road Project-Southern Loop, Package-1 (Land Acquisition and Relocation of Utilities), Revised, at a cost of Rs 9958.89 million, Lahore Ring Road Project-Southern Loop, Package-2 (Land Acquisition and Relocation of Utilities), Revised, at a cost of Rs 9983.46 million and Lahore Ring Road Project-Southern Loop, Package-3, (Land Acquisition and Relocation of Utilities) at a cost of Rs 8670.52 million.
