Background
During a meeting on August 23 presided by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif the Tunnel Project was resurrected after being inactive for a long period of time.
The Prime Minister informed the meeting, that “a tunnel through the Margalla Hills to link Islamabad with Haripur would provide a shorter route to commuters of Gilgit- Baltistan, Mansehra and Abbottabad”.
CDA and National Highways Authority are in charge of the project, both of which had been directed to undertake all preliminary measures and work out details with record speed.
