njab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has set a target of generating 1,000 megawatt electricity within a year and said all concerned departments should work round the clock for achieving the target. He said that the Punjab government will have to take a lead for rapid progress in energy projects at every cost and find ways of generating energy through alternate sources.

He said generation of energy is of great importance for development of the country. He was addressing a meeting of Punjab Energy Council with regard to progress on energy projects on Wednesday. The meeting gave formal approval to the summary of a separate Secretariat for Punjab Energy Council. Chief Secretary, Chairman Planning & Development, Co-ordinator for Energy Shahid Riaz Gondal, MPA Ayesha Ghous Pasha, Vice Chairman Punjab Investment Board, concerned secretaries and senior officials attended the meeting.

Sharif said elimination of energy crisis is essential for accelerating the process of industrialisation, promotion of trade activities and strengthening economy. The promise of eliminating load-shedding made by PML-N with the people would be fulfilled at every cost.

He said the people have given mandate to PML-N for eliminating energy crisis, therefore, no stone will be left unturned for ridding the masses of agony of load-shedding. The ways will have to be found as early as possible for generating energy through alternate sources and work on energy projects will have to be carried out expeditiously. He said generation of energy is of great importance for the development of the country and we have to march forward towards without any delay.
