CDA Anti-Encroachment Drive Meets Stiff Resistance

The Capital Development Authority (CDA)’s anti-encroachment team demolished illegal slums in sectors G-9, G-13, and G-11 and closed down 15 shops in Melody Food Street on Thursday despite tough resistance from encroachers.

Slum areas are found in almost every sector of the capital. Previously, the CDA anti-encroachment team met stiff resistance from slum dwellers who beat some of the CDA staff members. Now the CDA has begun the operation with the help of the Islamabad police.

Separately, an enforcement team of the CDA was beaten by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) workers for removing illegal banners hung in support of Faisal Sakhi Butt, contesting from NA-48.

According to details, the CDA enforcement team was removing panaflex banners hung by various political parties when PPP workers beat the CDA employees on account of removing Butt’s banners.

When contacted, Margalla Police Station House Officer said the CDA employees came to the police to station to lodge the first information report (FIR) but senior members of the PPP also reached there and got the matter resolved. However, sources revealed that the CDA staff members staged a protest in front of the police station and demanded strict action against the PPP workers. - See more at: http://www.pakistantoday.com.pk/2013/05/...Xe8H6.dpuf
