The Ministry of Housing and Works has found as many as 1,268 government houses and flats in occupation of illegal residents in different sectors of the federal capital.



In the light of directives of Supreme Court of Pakistan, the ministry has completed survey of a total of 17,190 housing units within the given time of 15 days.Ministry of Housing and Works Secretary Nasar Hayat on Monday presented a report to the Supreme Court consisting of all data regarding the inspected houses in Islamabad. The report says that 20 teams of the ministry surveyed 17,190 houses. The collected data was reconciled with the already present data in the ministry and the Estate Office by the concerned staff.



The Supreme Court of Pakistan lauded the performance of the Ministry of Housing and Works regarding conducting the survey of all housing units in Islamabad.An official of the ministry told ‘The News’ that out of the inspected housing units, 474 were found sublet, 592 were illegally occupied, 202 were trespassed and 530 were found locked.



The Estate Office has initiated action against unauthorised occupants and trespassers and those who have sublet their accommodations under the provision of Accommodation Allocation Rules 2002. “They have been served notices to clear their positions within three days, failing which proceedings to eject them would be initiated,” the official said.



He said the houses found locked would be revisited by survey teams.The Supreme Court showed its satisfaction over the efficient working of the ministry which completed the report within the stipulated period.
