ISLAMABAD – The Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat of the National Assembly (NA) has taken notice of non-removal of the katchi abadis (slums) in Sector I-11 of the federal capital and summoned a meeting on Monday.

The committee had instructed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to get the sector vacated from land grabbers and dwellers of slums, and give possession of the plots to the allottees, who have been waiting to take possession of their plots for last 23 years, after completing development work in the sector.

The CDA had told the committee that the civic authority had planned to conduct an operation to remove the slums from Sector I-11 from February 6 to 11 and it had served notices on 864 land grabbers. The civic body failed to conduct the operation as Islamabad could not assist the civic body in the operation between the dates. Islamabad administration and police are of the view that a search operation was necessary before demolishing the houses and structures in the slums but did not issue any schedule.
