LAHORE

AS elections are approaching fast, Punjab government has accelerated work on its major development projects, especially in provincial metropolis, and is all set to inaugurate Kalma Chowk Underpass on February 26.

Punjab government had recently inaugurated its much hyped-project, Metro Bus Service, in Lahore and now ready to launch Kalma Chowk Underpass before the likely dissolution of assemblies in March.

Chief Executive of the construction company Shahid Saleem told The News that more than 90 percent of construction work had been completed and remaining would be done within few days.

Project Manager of the company said the cost of project could increase by 5 to 7 percent due to changing in design of the project. He said 1-km long underpass would be the largest underpass of Lahore having three lanes at one side (from Qaddafi Stadium side to Barkat Market) and two lanes on the other side (from Barkat Market toward Qaddafi Stadium).

Kalma Chowk on Ferozepur Road is one of the busiest intersections which links various residential and commercial localities, including Gulberg, Model Town, Garden Town, Barkat Market, Muslim Town, Qaddafi Stadium and Khan Colony (Naseerabad).

Mazhar Khan, a Project Manager of TEPA, confirmed to this scribe that the inauguration of Kalma Chowk project could be done in four to five days.
