Rawalpindi—Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has failed to recover Rs5.9 million, it had earlier paid to acquire land for a housing society, from the forest department despite lapse of 17 years.

According to sources, the RDA signed a contract to acquire 200 acre land of the forest department to start a housing scheme in Loi Bher in 1995 and it was to pay the cost in five installments. The RDA paid Rs5.9 million. The forest department gave acquisition of the land to the RDA at the time, but later it denied giving the acquisition.

The sources said that the RDA officials wrote to the forest department to return its money but the money could not be recovered so far.

When contacted, Director General (DG) RDA, Chaudhry Naseer Ahmed said that the authority had decided to raise the issue with the forest department again. Meanwhile, the authority was writing letters to PWD, IB and police foundation informing them that the forest department had grabbed the RDA’s land
