RAWALPINDI - Construction work on Mureer Chowk Tunnel widening project will be started by the end of November as Railways would complete its work up to Nov 22.

Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Imdad Ullah Bosal on Saturday visited the site of the mega development project and directed the authorities concerned to accelerate the pace of work so that the project could be completed within stipulated time frame. He was accompanied by Deputy Director Engineering, Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Umar Farooq. The Deputy Director told that the project would be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 430 million.

The Commissioner was informed that Pakistan Railways would complete its work at the project site up to Nov 22 and then RDA would start the construction workon the project. Imdad Ullah Bosal issued directives that round the clock work should continue so that within shortest possible period of time, the project could be completed. So far Rs 76 million has been paid to Railways for shifting utility services from the project site while WAPDA was given Rs 24 million, PTCL received two million in this connection. The project would help resolve the traffic congestion problem at the busiest chowk of the town. After construction of new tunnels on the both sides of the Mareer chowk Railway-overhead bridge, the chowk would be a signal free chowk. With the construction of the project, a longstanding demand of the citizens would be fulfilled and they will get a sigh of relief as crossing of Mareer Chowk especially during peak hours, is a test of nerves for the motorists.
