RAWALPINDI: Construction work on the Marrer Chowk Tunnel project, the busiest intersection of the town, will be started soon as Pakistan Railways has completed its work on temporary railway track diversion project.

According to the officials at the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) the project will be completed in 120 days at an estimated cost of Rs 429 million. The bridge would cost Rs 158 million. RDA officials said that the railway tunnel project and the design of the structure have been vetted by the Railways. They further said that at present one side of the road under railway line is 33-feet wide, which will be expanded to 65 feet.

So far Rs 76 million have been paid to Pakistan Railways for shifting pf utility services from the project site, while WAPDA has been given Rs 24 million, and PTCL Rs 2 million in this connection. The project will help resolve the traffic congestion problem at the busiest chowk of the town
