CDA-RDA rift Airport Road goes ramshackle

RAWALPINDI - Airport Road (Islamabad Highway) from Flying Chowk to Koral Chowk has been damaged at many places causing inconvenience for the road users and resulting in accidents.

The major artery of the twin cities is neglected by both Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) and Capital Development Authority (CDA). Both authorities say that maintenance and renovation of the road is other’s responsibility.

According to the RDA’s perspective, the CDA had constructed the road, thus it should renovate the highway now. While the CDA officials say that the revenue boundary of the civic authority ends at Koral Chowk and revenue limits of Rawalpindi start from there. The CDA officials further say that the authority had constructed the road from Koral Chowk to 52 Flying Club on the special directives of the then prime minister and in a letter to the commissioner Rawalpindi, has now cleared that the RDA was responsible for the road renovation. It is quite relevant to mention here that the transporters and the citizens are using Airport Road instead of BB Road as an alternative route due to the construction of Sixth Road flyover.

The residents are facing problems in driving on the road due to its dilapidated condition; even a vehicle of convey of the Chief Justice of Pakistan has overturned on the road once.
