Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Director General Ch. Naseer Ahmad has said that the project of Mareer Chowk Underpass is being implemented by the authority and will be completed by end of current fiscal year, 2012-2013.

Talking to a group of journalist here on Monday, he dispelled the impression that work is on slow pace. He said the detailed design of the project has been completed as per scheduled time and submitted to Pakistan Railways for its vetting.

About 70% earthwork for temporary diversion has been completed and shifting of services is in progress, which will be completed by the end of this month. He further said that the project is being implemented on fast track basis with full cooperation of Pakistan Railway.

He also rebutted the impression of non-cooperation of Pakistan Railways with RDA and thanked the management of Pakistan Railways and other departments for their cooperation and timely decisions, which will be helpful in scheduled execution and completion of the project.

Official spokesman Deputy Director Umar Farooq said that the underpass would have two tunnels from Mareer Chowk to Kutcheri Chowk and again from Mareer Chowk to Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi.

Punjab government has already allocated and released an amount of Rs97 million to RDA for executing the project for control of traffic on Benazir Bhutto Road. The Punjab chief minister would lay the foundation stone of the project in the second week of October this year, which will be completed by end of current fiscal year, 2012-2013.
