Housing societies not giving plots’ possession

LAHORE: Thousands of Lahoris, who have invested their hard-earned money in new housing societies and are hoping to have their dream homes there, are at the mercy of property tycoons and their managements, who are not giving them possession of plots despite passing of due dates.

The development work in most of such societies has not been started so far, despite lapse of the dates for giving possession of plots to the owners, who have been paying instalments for the last three years or so. Some victims of Eden Lands-1 scheme situated on Ferozepur Road near Gajjumata Rohi Nulla, informed Daily Times that despite passing the possession date, the management of the housing scheme was not giving them possession of their plots.

Ghulam Rasool, a victim, said that he got a five-marla plot booked three years and eight months ago in Eden Lands-1 housing scheme. “I am paying a monthly instalment of Rs 10,975 along with Rs 1,500 as development charges for my plot. The administration promised to hand over the plot in three years. Now, after even a lapse of extra eight months, development work has not started on the land,” he said.

“For only delaying two months’ instalments, the management fined me Rs 65,000, which I paid by taking loan from a friend, The housing society should also be fined for delaying development work and giving possession of plots to the people who are paying instalments over the last three years,” he added.
