Rs 245b road projects being implemented

Islamabad—National Highway Authority (NHA) is implementing 46 development projects on roads covering 2,985 kms at a cost Rs 245 billion in different sections. These include construction of roads, river bridges, tunnels, flyovers, interchanges.

The break-up of NHA projects on Friday revealed that 14 projects with 315 km length are being implemented in Punjab at a cost of Rs 48.2, in Sindh 13 projects (length of 714 kms) worth Rs 59.5 billion, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, GB and AJK 12 projects (length 738 kms) worth Rs 73.1 billion, and in Balochistan seven projects are being implemented with 1218 kms and cost is Rs 64.5 billion.

Regarding new development projects, the data said during this financial year, NHA launched/awarded 16 projects covering a length of above 500 kms including construction of a number of bridges, flyovers and interchanges costing Rs 70.951 billion.

NHA is simultaneously constructing 12 bridges across the rivers. These are on river Chenab 4, on rivers Sutlej 2, on river Swan 1 and on river Indus 5.

The data further revealed that the Authority also spent Rs 19.6 billion to complete 12 projects of flyovers, bridges, interchanges and road upgradation during last one year.

It said despite overall budgetary constraints during the fiscal year, and the effects of heavy floods in 2010 and law and order challenges NHA performed well.
