CM invites Turk investment for power generation sector

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said on Friday that Pakistan and Turkey are two important countries of the Islamic world that have vast potential in the economic and industrial sectors.
He was talking to a representative delegation of Turk power generation companies. The launch of new power generation projects in Punjab was discussed in detail in the meeting. The meeting was of the view that power generation projects from solid waste in Punjab are highly lucrative.
Sharif said relations between Turkey and Pakistan are based on brotherhood and that bilateral ties between the two countries have been nurtured by sincerity. He appreciated the assistance extended by Turk government and people to the people affected by the floods in Pakistan.
The chief minister said both the countries could achieve development targets through the exchange of technology and technical expertise.
He appreciated Turk cooperation in initiating the bus rapid transit system and modernising the solid waste management system.
He stated that there are vast opportunities for investment in Punjab’s energy sector.
He said besides the intelligent transport system, a bus rapid transit system is also being initiated in cooperation with Turkey to introduce the latest transport system trends.
Turkey’s technology and expertise is also being availed in solid waste management, he said, urging the Turk delegation to launch projects for power generation from solid waste in Lahore and other major cities of the province.
He assured of the Punjab Investment Boar’s assistance to the Turk companies in this regard.
The members of Turkish delegation on this occasion described the poetry of Allama Iqbal as a spiritual gift for the people of Turkey and said the thought-provoking poetry was heartwarming for the Turk people.
They said the spirit of love and sacrifice of the Muslims of the sub-continent for their Turk brethren had prevailed through generations. They stated that Pakistan is the second home for the people of Turkey and that Pakistanis have always shown love and hospitality to their Turk brethren.
Lahore Transport Company Chairman Ahmad Hassaan, Vice Chairman Mehr Ishtiaq, Planning and Development chairman, secretaries for Finance and Energy, Solid Waste Management Company Managing Director, Punjab Investment Board vice chairman and Lahore District Coordination Officer were also present on the occasion.
