Development work in G-14 to start within one month

Islamabad :A senior official of the Ministry of Housing and Works is confident of starting development work in stalled Sector G-14 within a month time.

Federal Secretary Housing Kamran Lashari told ‘The News’ on Saturday that the award for built-up property in Sector G-14 would be announced after one week. The Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF) has already finalised list of 788 affected people having 1.85 million square feet Built-up Property (BuP) against which they would be compensated.

Lashari, who during his tenure as chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) made the civic body as self-sufficient organisation and also carried out record development works, said the housing foundation would not face any financial problems in timely completion of the civil work.

He said that in order to keep the whole process as transparent, the housing foundation would call open tenders for selection of the reputed contractor to take up the development task.

Asked about deployment of rangers or police at Sector G-14 to protect the land from encroachers, Lashari said they have asked the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration to look into that possibility also.

The Sector G-14 was launched for federal government employees about nine years back in 2003 but the development work could not start their due to non-seriousness concerned authorities in completing acquisition of land work. There is also reserve quota in the sector for judicial officers, employees of autonomous organisations, retired government employees and journalists.
