Over Rs 13b uplift schemes approved

LAHORE :THE Punjab government on Wednesday approved over Rs 13 billion development schemes on Wednesday as more than three quarters of the fiscal year passed and utilization of development funds had gained momentum.

Interestingly, Lahore always remained focus of development projects in Punjab and on Wednesday, Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) meeting out of total Rs 13.518 billion worth schemes, Rs 11.549 billion approved for Lahore schemes only.

The approval was given in the 36th meeting of the Provincial Development working Party presided over by Planning and Development Board Chairman Javaid Aslam. Members of the P and D Board, representatives of the finance, environment, health, higher education, communication and works, transport, irrigation and housing and urban departments also attended the meeting.

Bus Rapid Transit System along Ferozepur Road was the major scheme approved on Wednesday at a total cost of Rs 10.206 billion. The newly approved development schemes of Lahore are: construction of Bus Rapid Transit System along Ferozepur Road, Youhanaabad to Kalma Chowk (10.0 km) Package-I at a cost of Rs 3.821 billion, construction of Bus Rapid Transit System along Ferozepur Road, Package-II: Kalma Chowk to Qartaba Chowk (length 4.9 km) at a cost of Rs 2.632 billion, construction of Bus Rapid Transit System along Ferozepur Road, Package-III: Qartaba Chowk to

MAO College (Elevated Section-2.5 Km) at a cost of Rs 3.807 billion.

Other than this, Establishment of government Degree College for Women, Gawalmandi, Lahore, at a cost of Rs 331.204 million and implementation of Master Plan Lahore General Hospital, Lahore, Phase-II, at a cost of Rs 957.8 million were also approved by the PDWP meeting members.

Some little chunk of less than Rs 2 billion worth resources was also approved for the development schemes of other parts of the province. These approved schemes are upgrade of Mechanical System of Faisalabad Wasa at a cost of Rs 968 million, widening/improvement of Suraj Miani Road which starts from Katchery Chowk and ends at Northern Bypass, length 4.60 km, Multan City, at a cost of Rs 373.174 million, Dualisation of a road via University Chowk to Deewan Wali Pully, length 5.25 km, Bahawalpur district, at a cost of Rs 303.275 million and rehabilitation of Muridke Branch System (Revised) at a cost of Rs 324.832 million.
