Pindi traffic police launch operation against encroachers

* Officials confiscate several fruit, vegetable handcarts

RAWALPINDI: The City Traffic Police (CTP) in coordination with the departments concerned have reportedly conducted an operation against encroachers who have established stalls on roads, and confiscated several vegetable and fruit handcarts.

A CTP spokesman said that the operation was conducted on the special instructions of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Capt ® Muhammad Zubair and Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Ghulam Abbas Tarar.

Under the operation, several vegetable and fruit handcarts and other goods, particularly from the area of Khawaja Corporation Chowk to Chungi No 22 Chowk, were confiscated and handed over to the staff of the Potohar Town. The CTP also demolished the illegal stalls across the road and took the area back into their control.

A number of encroachers were also issued warnings in this regard. The encroachers have also been warned that cases would be registered against the violators in the future and no one would be spared.

CTP Inspector (Encroachments) Bashir Ahmed Toor, Adiala Sector In-charge Inspector Amir and other staff concerned conducted the operation and took action against the encroachers in accordance with the law, he said.

The operation is part of the traffic police’s drive for the removal of encroachments from city roads to resolve traffic problems.

The spokesman said that several raids had also been conducted earlier in many areas, including Chungi no 22, Tench Bhatta, People’s Colony, Harlay Street, Kalma Chowk, Masrial Road, Westrige Bazaar, Dhoke Saydian Chowk, Glass Factory, Fawara Chowk, Iqbal Road, Bara Market, Bohar Bazaar, Scheme No 1, Raheemabad, Kali Tanki, Asghar Mall Chowk, Bakara Mandi, Allabad Bazaar and Mindora Chungi.

According to the CTP, the encroachers occupied the area for a long time and it was inevitable for the department to initiate a strong operation against them, as they had also made illegal structures across the roads, causing traffic mess. The confiscated items and handcarts have been handed over to the departments concerned for further legal action
