Residents demand overhead bridge at Rawal Chowk

ISLAMABAD: The absence of an overhead bridge over Chak Shahzad Rawal Chowk has created life risks for the area’s residents. The population of the area runs into millions. Most of the residents are government employees. The traffic has greatly increased and on the vehicular rush on Chak Shahzad double road in the early hours of the morning and at closing hours of offices is causing great difficulties to pedestrians who have to cross the road to reach their houses. A group of female students said the road has become impassable and dangerous for them because of over-speeding vehicles. Because of this they have to sometimes wait for hours to reach their schools. “We are low-paid employees and come from Dam Colony, but due to the traffic rush on this road we can not cross to other side to catch transport,” said a group of residents of Dam Colony. An elderly person said, “We have to hire taxi at high fares to cross this road to move to a hospital as it becomes impassable for us due to fast vehicular traffic.” Residents of the area have demanded immediate construction of an overhead bridge over Rawal Chowk, warning otherwise they will be forced to stage protest rallies.
