KARACHI: Scores of workers of defunct Karachi Development Authority (KDA) staged a protest demonstration at the Civic Centre here on Monday, demanding restoration of the authority on its previous status, and immediate merging of Lyari Development Authority (LDA) and Malir Development Authority (MDA) into KDA. The employees carrying placards gathered within the premises of the Civic Centre and chanted slogans in pursuance of their demands for more than two hours and did not attend their duties. KDA CBA president Abdul Mateen said the authority had served the city for more than 40 years but it was now being ruined under a planned conspiracy. He vowed that KDA workers wouldn’t allow conspirators to succeed in their malicious intentions. He further said the Sindh government had released Rs 220 million for payment of salaries to the workers, but KMC management embezzled it and disbursed meagre amount to KDA. General secretary KDA Union Ashfaque Chishti demanded that the previous status of the released be restored forthwith and streamline the procedure for payment of salaries to its workers. He also strongly demanded the merger of LDA, MDA and Karachi Building Control Authority into KDA.
