NFSA releases Rs 47m to CDA for lab building


ISLAMABAD - National Forensic Science Agency (NFSA) is massively pursuing to construct its own lab building and has submitted an initial amount of Rs 47 million to the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
The Capital Development Authority has said that it will complete drawings and site survey by January 30, which will help to assess total cost and start the construction work of the building as early as possible, NFSA Project Director Syed Khalid Gardezi said.
He said NFSA, a project of Ministry of Interior, was working in a rented building to support the law-enforcement agencies in conducting biological tests and striving to connect crime scene and judicial system through development of delivery of impartial expert scientific opinion evidence.
He said the amount provided to the CDA was meant for first block (27,000 sqft) of the NFSA’s headquarters building in H-11 Sector, which would have laboratories and other facilities, in accordance with international standards. Expected total cost of the building was around Rs 465 million, he added.
Gardezi said land for regional labs in Peshawar, Karachi and Quetta had also been acquired. The boundary wall of regional forensic science laboratories in Peshawar and Quetta had already been completed while boundary wall of Islamabad plot was in progress.
He said after the completion of the headquarters building on 153,091 sq ft, the agency would be able to deliver in a more professional manner. An institute would also be established at the NFSA headquarters building to impart training in forensic field.
