LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif said that the Punjab government was pursuing a comprehensive programme for public welfare in the province, in connection to which several uplift projects were being executed expeditiously.

Talking about the Ashiana Housing Scheme (AHS), the CM praised the Punjab government for realising the dream of the common man of having his own house.

The houses provided under the AHS have better residential facilities than those found in the housing societies of the elite. He said that after the first AHS in Saroba Attari, Lahore, not only the scope of this project was being extended but land for the scheme had also been identified in 17 other districts of the province.

He said that the programme of distribution of 3 and 5 marla plots to the homeless living in both the rural and urban areas of the province had been finalised under which one lakh plots would be distributed to people in the rural areas and five lakh plots to those living in the urban centres.

Shahbaz said that the process of distribution of plots among the homeless would be carried out in a completely transparent manner, under the supervision of district-monitoring committees.

The CM then referred to the modern transport system that was recently launched in the metropolis, adding that its scope was being extended to other cities of the province as well.
