PM orders strategy for new housing in capital
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has entrusted the Task Force on Islamabad with the responsibility to chalk out a comprehensive strategy to open up new sectors and take immediate steps to start development work of the stalled sectors to overcome the shortage of housing units in the federal capital.
Task Force on Islamabad Chairman Faisal Sakhi Butt said this on Thursday while addressing at the groundbreaking ceremony held for the development of the sector I-11. He appreciated the efforts of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman and his team for taking concrete measures for the development of the sector I-11 in a very short time, which was stalled since 1990. He congratulated the allottees and hoped that they would soon be able to construct their houses on the plots, which were allotted to them long ago.
The CDA Chairman, Engineer Farkhand Iqbal, said that one of the major responsibilities of the CDA, in addition to provision of basic amenities to the citizens, was to provide affordable housing to the citizens of Islamabad, for which, new sectors were being planned and a comprehensive policy had been made to start development of the stalled sectors on war-footing, so that the allottees could be handed over possession of their plots.
CDA will soon fulfil its commitment to the allottees by handing over possession of the plots to the allottees in other stalled sectors, like D-12, E-12, I-14 and I-15, he promised. He requested the allottees and the affectees for their cooperation in this regard because, he said, without the cooperation and help of the allottees, the CDA would face a lot of difficulties in getting possession of the sectors which were under illegal occupation. He said the development of the sector I-11 would be completed on fast track and within the stipulated timeframe. He requested the local people to join hands with the CDA in making Islamabad more clean, green and beautiful city.
Earlier, Syed Ibrar Hussain Shah, while briefing about the project said that there were 2000 plots in total, 1700 plots had been allotted to the CDA employees, and 300 plots to the affectees. The project for development of the sector I-11 would be completed in eighteen months with a total cost of Rs 186.928 million. All board members, CDA officers and a large number of allottees and local people were present on the occasion.
