Officials responsible for PR land encroachment

LAHORE: Some 1,500 acres of railways land has been in illegal possession of federal and provincial governments’ departments.

A report would be finalised about railways land in illegal occupation of individuals or government departments and submitted to parliament and federal cabinet,” said Senate Standing Committee’s Sub-Committee Convener Senator Abdul Ghaffar Qureshi on Monday.

He said that railways still claimed ownership of the Shalamar Hospital land. The PR should move a court of law if the matter could not be resolved otherwise, he said while presiding over a meeting of the sub-committee at the PR headquarters in Lahore.

Holding railways officials responsible for illegal occupation of the land of the organisation, Mr Qureshi said no concrete efforts were made by them to retrieve the property. He directed the railways officers concerned to provide within a month details of land under encroachments or illegal occupation.

Railways SSP Ahmad Mukhtar informed the meeting that concrete efforts were underway to retrieve PR land from encroachers. So far, railways police retrieved 494 acres, two kanal, three marla and 213 square feet from encroachers, out of which more than 145 acres were retrieved in Lahore division.
