Rawalpindi Development News : Pindi gets green signal to start projects

RAWALPINDI : The Punjab government will provide Rs1.26 billion for the construction of Marir Chowk tunnel and a gynae hospital in the city and work on these projects will start by next month.

PML-N MNA Malik Shakeel Awan told Dawn on Saturday that the provincial government had given a green signal to City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) to start the
initial work on Rs360 million Marir Chowk Tunnel project to resolve traffic mess on Benazir Bhutto Road.

He said after the construction of the tunnel and two more flyovers on the main artery of the city, there would be no need to revive Leh Expressway project.

He said the two flyovers would be constructed from Moti Mahal to Liaquat Bagh Chowk and Teli Mohallah to Naz Cinema.

He said the provincial government had directed the local administration to prepare the feasibility of two flyovers which would be presented to the government by the end of March.

He said Leh Expressway project could not be revived because it required requisition of land from two main residential areas along the nullah.

Malik Shakeel Awan said the provincial government would provide Rs800 million to complete the construction of Mother and Child Hospital, adding that the project would decrease
the rush at three government-run hospitals where shortage of beds forced the patients to share beds.
