Chandni chowk flyover Citizens asked to use alternative routes

RAWALPINDI: City traffic officer SSP Ghulam Abbas Tarar has urged citizens to use alternative routes instead of Benazir Bhutto Road from Benazir Bhutto Hospital to Sixth Road to reach their destination during the construction of Chandni chowk flyover.

He said though a comprehensive traffic plan has been formulated but cooperation of the citizens was necessary to avoid traffic mess mainly on Benazir Bhutto Road. He said an enhanced number of traffic wardens were performing duty at the site of project.

The building work on the project would be completed within the shortest possible time and all necessary arrangements regarding regular flow of traffic have been made aimed at facilitating the motorists, he said. In order to mitigate the sufferings of the general public alternative routes have been provided to the traffic to minimise the load on the busiest road of the city.The SSP said citizens should use the route of Rehmanabad, Sadiqabad, Ali Nawaz Chowk, Rawal Road, Tipu Road via Rialto Chowk to Murree Road to reach Rawalpindi from Islamabad. Similarly, those who wanted to travel towards Islamabad from Rawalpindi should use Committee Chowk underpass via Asghar Mall Chowk, Saidpur Road Chowk and Sixth Road from where they can use Murree Road.

The SSP said the motorists may use Airport Road and Peshawar Road to approach Islamabad and Rawalpindi. He said that about 73 per cent traffic load of Benazir Bhutto Road would be diverted to alternative routes of the city during the period.In order to ensure the smooth flow on other routes of the city, all encroachments on various roads were being removed, he added. Ghulam Abbas said that special arrangements have also been made to control the traffic jams in the town. Wrong parking of vehicles on the city roads was strictly being checked and negligence on part of traffic police officials would not be spared, he said.

He urged the citizens to cooperate with traffic police so that all traffic-related problems could be addressed properly. Under the traffic plan devised for the regular traffic flow, traffic police officers have been directed to take action against violators of traffic rules in accordance with the law.

He said that wardens have also been directed to work with dedication and commitment and ensure the smooth flow of traffic

so that any mess particularly on congested roads could be averted. — APP
