Islamabad : U-turns near Zero Point prone to accidents

The commuters have termed U-turns on Faisal Avenue, near Zero Point Interchange, Jinnah Super and surroundings improper and prone to fatal accidents.

It is a common sight that passenger vans while taking U-turns do not care about the traffic coming from the opposite side, especially the motorcyclists, which cause accidents.

Neither the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has deployed any officials at U-turns to control the traffic nor the Capital Development Authority (CDA) is taking steps to complete the construction work.

Nadeem Ali, a professional, told APP that it was very difficult during rush hours in the morning and in the evening to take u-turn.

He complained that an immense amount of about three billion rupees was spent on the mega project without taking care of the problems of traffic coming from Rawalpindi on Faisal Avenue who want to take a turn towards the Suhrawardy Road.

Taking U-turn especially during peak hours of morning and evening is a daunting challenge for the drivers, he said, adding that while planning the mega project, this aspect was not considered.

He alleged that the construction work of the interchange was started without taking a proper planning. The construction of interchange was meant to ensure smooth traffic flow, but U-turns were negating this purpose. It seemed that no proper planning was made in this regard, he added.

He called the scarcity and placing of these turns as questionable. The CDA officials when asked about these U-turn’s future strategy, he replied that the construction work would be completed soon on these U-turns and this was not there responsibility to control the traffic flow on these U-Turns. app
