Sacked CJ may be retired, asked to vacate official house

ISLAMABAD: The government may retire sacked chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and ask him to leave the Chief Justice House through a notice by the Public Works Department (PWD) within a week, sources in the Law Ministry told Daily Times. A senior Law Ministry official asking for anonymity also cited Law Minister Farooq H Naik’s statements that Justice Chaudhry could not be reinstated as the chief justice because Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar had already taken oath for the post and there could not be two chief justices. Athar Minallah, a spokesman for Justice Chaudhry, said any such orders would be illegal and the sacked chief justice would defy them. The PWD had served two such notices on Justice Chaudhry during the tenure of Gen ® Pervez Musharraf. Former Supreme Court Bar Association vice president Muhammad Ikram Chaudhry said the department was not authorised to issue such a notice. masood rehman
