The Defence Housing Authority (DHA) has claimed that its DHA City Karachi (DCK) residential project on the Super Highway is still a far-flung largely desolate wasteland and will be made a habitable area in three to four years.

Administrator DHA Brigadier Aamer Raza Qureshi expressed this optimism while speaking at a meeting of the Executive Board of the DHA held on Monday, where the DHA City master plan was unveiled in its final shape.

Corps Commander Lt-General Zahirul Islam chaired the meeting. The DCK project, spread over an area of 11,640 acres, was conceived in 2005 while balloting for more than 27,000 residential and commercial plots was held towards end-2009. The master plan was completed in a year. Brig Qureshi informed the Executive Board that a development strategy had been formulated comprising an immediate action plan to make the DCK site operational (by 2011-2012), a short-term development plan comprising primary infrastructure and facilities development (to be undertaken from 2012 to 2015), a mid-term development plan (from 2015 to 2020) and a long-term development plan comprising complete development and consolidation of area (from 2020 to 2030) to be executed on a fast-track basis

Lt-Gen Zahirul Islam commended the dedicated efforts of the experts of the consortium of town planning firms for completing the DCK Master Plan model in a most professional manner for making a modern mini-city within a city that will accommodate the future residential and commercial expansion of the metropolis.
