RAWALPINDI: The Interior Ministry has directed the authorities concerned to remove huge hoardings installed on roadsides and buildings immediately, which have been termed a security threat by intelligence agencies and other departments responsible for protection of very important persons (VIPs).

Sources told this news agency on Sunday that the ministry had directed Rawalpindi Cantonment Board, Rawalpindi Development Authority, Capital Development Authority and the district administrations of Rawalpindi and Islamabad to initiate steps for removal of hoardings from those routes used by the VIP convoys.

Notices to the authorities concerned for removal of the hoardings have been issued, they said, adding, decision in this regard was taken in view of fluctuating law and order situation in the country.

Following an incident of firing on a car of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani’s convoy on Islamabad Highway, the sources said, the security agencies had submitted a report to the ministry, recommending removal of the hoardings, as those posed a great threat to security and protection of the VIPs.

The sources said the security agencies had declared hoardings security threat which were installed alongside Islamabad Highway, Karal Chowk, Airport Chowk, Flying Club Chowk, Chaklala Base Chowk, Rawal Road, Kutchery Chowk, Shakrial Chowk, Ammar Chowk, Ghanda Chichi and other places. app
