LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has given approval to the up-gradation of 64 dispensaries and health centres that will be converted into dengue treatment centres at an expenditure of Rs 5.4 billion, said Punjab Agriculture Secretary Captain ® Arif Nadeem while addressing a meeting held to review campaign against dengue at KEMU on Friday.

He informed that fogging machines and spray pumps had been provided to each union council in sufficient numbers to ensure IRS in the houses of dengue patients. He said that a meeting was scheduled for Saturday with manufacturers of pesticides/insecticides to ensure provision of anti-mosquito spray on normal rates to the citizens. He informed that MNA Bilal Yaseen and MPA Khawaja Salman Raffique would also attend the meeting.

Meanwhile, Punjab Health DG Dr Muhammad Aslam Chaudhry said that 17 dispensaries and health centres had been up-graded and converted into dengue treatment centres where necessary equipment and blood analysers had been provided and where the doctors had conducted 3,300 blood tests uptil now. Moreover, blood-screening centres established in each town have so far conducted 11,165 blood tests for dengue.

He informed that High Dependency Units had been established in the teaching hospitals of Lahore.
