LAHORE: The provincial Health Department asked Administrator Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Secretary Cantonment Board and Chairman Model Town Society to take steps for elimination of mosquito breeding sites in view of dengue outbreak.

The Health Department spokesman in a handout here on Thursday said that water falls and fountains should also be kept dry and swimming pools drained for two months in this regard. They were also asked to carryout spray inside houses and lawns for elimination of mosquitoes. The Health Department asked the Secretaries of provincial Schools and Higher Education Departments to direct all the in-charges of primary and secondary schools and colleges for this too and to drain out swimming pools of educational institutions for two months.

Meanwhile, in another handout the Health Department appealed Lahorites especially those residing in posh areas of Model Town, Gulberg, Cantonment and DHA to drain out their swimming pools, fountains and water falls and keep their lawns dry for two months.

Besides, people have been asked not to leave water in open pots and places to check mosquito breeding. It may be mentioned here that stagnating fresh water is the ideal breeding site for dengue mosquitoes due to which preventive measures are not fully effective.
