Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed the departments concerned to take against the spread of dengue virus, evolving a coordinated strategy in this regard.

He said all the available resources should be utilised for eradication of dengue virus with zero tolerance for negligence. He said he would personally visit more dengue-hit areas daily and would hold meetings to review the steps taken for eradication of virus with the help of elected representatives, civil society, locals and departments concerned. He gave directions to officials to further improve the process of purchasing quality medicines for eradication of dengue virus.

Presiding over a meeting to review the steps taken for eradication of dengue virus here on Monday, Shahbaz said a comprehensive action plan should be evolved for protecting the people from dengue virus and sprays should be carried out in houses as well as streets. He said committees, headed by elected representatives, should be constituted at the Mohallah level and members of the civil society and locals should be included in it.

He said an effective awareness campaign about preventive measures for protection against the virus should be launched and besides special discussion and seminars, corner meetings should also be held at the Mohallah level.

The chief minister said all elected representatives should supervise the ongoing campaign for eradication of dengue virus in their respective areas and submit daily reports to him. He said planning should be made before hand for eradication of the virus in the future and a comprehensive strategy should also be adopted in consultation with the experts.

The CM directed the officials concerned to immediately provide the cell separator machines to the Mayo Hospital and provincial ministers and elected representatives should visit hospitals regularly to review the treatment facilities for the dengue patients.

entrance test: Shahbaz Sharif said on Monday that entrance test for admission to public and private medical colleges of the province would be held on September 13 in 12 cities of the province and 24 examination centres have been set up for the purpose.

Defence Day message: Shahbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan is passing through a very critical juncture of the history and the nation needs the same spirit and unity for meeting the challenges being faced by the country which was demonstrated during September 1965 War. In his message on Defence Day on Monday, he said that the sacrifices rendered by the Pakistan army during September War would be remembered forever.

environment: Shahbaz Sharif said on Monday that solid steps were being taken for provision of healthy environment to the people and removing garbage from the cities. He said he wanted to see Lahore neat and clean like Istanbul and an agreement had also been made with a Turkish company in this regard.
