Encroachments by land mafia in other sub-sectors of G-14 continues to get buildup property compensation gGolra police, officials deputed by FGEHF and ICT admin turn blind eye to illegal construction for financial gains despite ban under section 144

By Ikram Junaidi

Though Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF), Islamabad Capital Territory administration (ICT) and Golra police took no concrete measures to stop illegal constructions in sub sector G-14/1, the growth of encroachments in this sector is comparatively slow, as a main road passes from it and there is frequent movement of the public, Daily Times learnt on Friday.

It is feared that the genuine people affected in the process of land acquisition would be deprived of their due compensation and allottees of the plots in the sector would further suffer due to delay in development work and handing over possession of plots to them.

Low growth rate of illegal construction in this sector just because of public movement puts a question mark on competence and professional approach of Golra Police, FGEHF and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration that have deputed officials to stop the encroachments and ensure section 144 but even then illegal constructions are increasing, it is learnt.

According to sources, land mafia is active in all three sectors of G-14 and has been constructing dummy houses by cement blocks and factory prepared roofs to include them in the survey list of build-up property compensation.

A director requesting not to be named said that in 2003 FGEHF had announced sector G-14’s sub sectors 1, 2 and 3 for the different categories of government officers and other segments through balloting. After receiving applications almost 8,000 applicants were allotted plots in three sub sectors and it was expected that within three to four years development of the sector will be completed and possession of the plots will be handed over to the allottees. FGEHF and ICT administration of that time deliberately only solved the matter of land acquiring and put off the matter of buildup property compensation pending due to which now they have got a chance to make money through dummy buildup property.

Sources said that astonishingly the rate of encroachment in sector G-14/1 was much less because public passes from there and passerby might think and complaint that what FGEHF, ICT administration and Golra Police were doing. On the other hand, in those sectors where police, ICT administration and FGEHF officials have deputed and there is no road, encroachments have been increasing day by day.

Residents of the area said that Station House Officer (SHO) Golra Inspector Qasim Niazi had been deputed in the area to ensure that land mafia might continue encroachments without any interruption. They said land mafia had been continuously constructing dummy houses and during construction police and FGEHF officials did not stop the land mafia for getting financial benefits.
