Lahore—Chief Minister Punjab, Muhammed Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday said Aashiana Housing Scheme project would be extended to 16 more districts and land in this regard had already been acquired.

“The government is committed to provide houses to poor and deserving people without any discrimination,” he told a delegation of members Punjab Assembly who called him on at his chamber today.

Besides Lahore, the chief minister said, Aashiana Housing Schemes were being constructed at Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Jehlum, and Sargodha.

He made it clear that houses being built in these schemes would only be given to widows, orphans, cart-pushers, labourers, cultivators and the commonman and thereby realized their dream of having their own houses.

He said, the project would be extended to 36 districts of the province under a phased programme.

He lamented that while the rich have all the privileges at the doorstep of their mansions, the commonman is deprived even of basic facilities.

He said that Aashiana Housing Schemes are meant for those who have rendered sacrifices for Pakistan, played an important role for the development of the country and earning their livelihood through honest means.

Meanwhile, the allotees of the first Aashiyana Housing Scheme while paying tributes to President Pakistan Muslim League-N Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif at a ceremony held in connection with distribution of allotment letters of the houses at Soraba Atari.

They said that both the leaders feel the pain of the poor. They said that may Allah Almighty give such courageous rulers to the country as could put the country on the road to progress. A widow Rehana Iqbal who got house in the Aashiyana Housing Scheme, said that it is the desire of everyone to have a house of his own. She said that she can not even think of having her own house but the Chief Minister has materialized her dream. Muhammad Nauman said that due to financial constraints, he could not even imagine having his own house in Lahore but Shahbaz Sharif has given him a house and he prays for him from the core of his heart. He said that Allah Almighty will reward him for commitment to the development of the province and welfare of the poor. Another allotee, Rang Elahi said that the slogan of roti, kapra and makan was raised by someone else but Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has materialized it. Muhammad Arif said that his father had died and he was living with his uncle. He said that he, his mother and other members of his family are very happy over having their own house in Aashiyana Housing Scheme and pray for Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif.

Pakistan Muslim League-N leaders, prominent personalities and notables belonging to various sectors from all over the country participated in the ceremony. The venue was jam packed. The joy and happiness on the faces of the allotees was worth-seeing and as soon as the leaders give allotment letters to the lucky persons the venue resounded with the slogans in favour of Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif.
