Karachi—The DHA City Karachi (DCK’s) Steering Committee Meeting presided over by Administrator DHA, Brig Aamer Raza Qureshi was held at DHA’s Main Office here on Monday.

Project Director DCK, Brig (Retd) Rafique, informed the meeting that DCK’s master planning was in the finalization stage and is moving towards initiation of physical development on ground.

The master planning is likely to be completed by September this year.

The Administrator DHA asked DCK to start the work on construction of boundary wall, entrance gate, DCK’s on ground staff accommodation and initiation of underground water exploration at site under the immediate action plan.

He said that semblance of development activity will give a jump start to the project and hoped that physical structures would soon be visible on ground.

The Steering Committee approved the zonal plan, land use plan and roadway master plan of the project. DCK’s lead concept planner, Prof Spiro Pollalis, presented a detailed master planning report of Sec 5 and 6 focusing on plots planning in the sector.

The committee decided in principle that the topography and natural landscaping of the area including ridges and natural valleys would be maintained to make the area beautiful and attractive.

The Administrator directed that adequate compulsory open spaces and green belts according to the international standards must be incorporated in the master planning.

He said that judicious use of curved spaces should be made to incorporate cul-de-sac concept in street designing. The committee also approved rectangular shape of plots for the sector.

The Steering Committee approved two interchanges on Super Highway, one catering for traffic to downtown recreational area and the other providing access to DCK residential area.

A direct access link from DCK’s Educational Complex to the neighbouring Educational City was also finalized.

The meeting also approved the street-car based concept of public transport network in DCK for which ample space is planned along the roads. Team Leader of DCK Consultants, Arif Osmani, presented the DCK Economic Development Plan formulated to create functional economic/ business opportunities in the area to attract the visitors and initial residents in DCK.

The development plan included Recreational, Educational and Healthcare initiatives to make DHA City a small living locality within 3-4 years. The recreational feature of the plan includes a DCK Lakeside Park having a small lake, Botanical Garden and a Birds Aviary, which is planned to be made under the Immediate Action Plan.

Main educational initiative includes a DCK International University (linked with leading international universities) for post graduate programmes in the contemporary engineering and technology disciplines.

Under the DCK Healthcare development plan, a DCK healthcare city is being planned to be completed under the short term development plan.

Administrator DHA appreciated the fast track working on DCK project, and impressed upon the consultants to ensure that DCK is developed in a way that it provides unique and versatile living, working and recreational facilities to its residents.
