ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) was informed on Tuesday that 8,300 acres land of Capital Development Authority (CDA) was still in occupation of land mafia in sectors E-11, D-11, G-12 and F-11.

A two-member bench comprising Chief Justice (CJ) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Justice Ghulam Rabbani noted that such allotment of public land to private housing societies would give rise to an infinite episode of state’s land grabbing and a principle would be adopted that any one who has power could grab the state land.

The bench was hearing a suo motu case against allotment of billion of rupees land in Sector E-11 by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to the Multi Professional Housing Society under the cover of its development. During hearing, the CJ said if CDA could get its land vacated from land grabbers in Bani Gala, then why it could not do so in Sector E-11. He said CDA acquired this land in 1968 and it could only be developed by it and not by a private housing society.

Counsel for CDA Khalid Anwar contended that no irregularities were committed while giving the land to the private housing society for its development. He said no proof of any kind of irregularities was found in the land’s transaction and the whole process was done in a transparent manner. He said 8,300 acres land of CDA was still occupied by land mafia in four sectors.

The court adjourned the hearing for today (Wednesday) as the court time was over.
