The deadline for the completion of the Airport Road ends today (Tuesday) and still a lot of work has to be completed by the concerned authorities.

According to official sources, Rs1 billion project was to be completed by the end of the last fiscal, but the FWO failed to meet its earlier deadline and later the Punjab government extended the deadline of the project by September 30,2008.

The project is being supervised by the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), which awarded the contract to FWO directing it to complete it within the time frame. However, the sources informed that after failure to meet its second deadline, the Punjab government and the RDA took strong notice of it.

Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif expressed concern over delay in the completion of the project. On the instruction of the CM, RDA Chief Makeen Shahbaz took serious notice of it. He said that the project has been delayed and the FWO has failed to meet its second deadline.

According to FWO officials, the work has been delayed or being carried on at slow pace due to VIP movement on the road. Otherwise, all the hurdles coming in its way had been removed including encroachments, properties, houses and business centres. The RDA on demand has provided another two months to FWO for completion of work on the Airport Road project, the director general informed.
