LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting of Board of Directors of Punjab Land Development Company (PLDC), here on Monday.

Chairman PLDC and Member Provincial Assembly Sh. Allauddin, Khawaja Imran Nazir MPA, Chairman Lahore Transport Company Khawaja Ahmad Hasaan, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretaries of Finance, Housing, Communication & Works and senior officers concerned were present.

The meeting reviewed in detail the pace of progress of Ashiyana Housing Project for low-income people.

Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that the Punjab government had launched Ashiyana Housing Project for the benefit of low-income people of the province and an autonomous company had been set up for this purpose.

He said that under the scheme, houses would be provided to low-income people at a reasonable rate and availability of all necessary facilities would be ensured in these residential schemes.

He said all residential schemes under Ashiyana Housing Project would be completed in a transparent manner and the houses would be allotted through balloting.

He said that special quota had been allocated for widows, orphans, disabled persons and families of martyrs in Ashiyana Housing Schemes.

He said that the scheme was a welfare project of the Punjab government and would translate the dream of low-income people of having their own house into reality.

He said that like other projects, transparency would be ensured at any cost in the project.

"Board of directors should select well-reputed companies for these projects which could execute these schemes within timeframe and ensure a high standard of construction" he added.

He added that besides Lahore, projects would also be implemented under the scheme in other districts of the province and suitable locations were being identified for this purpose.

He said that all out efforts would be made for early implementation of Ashiyana Housing Project and the board has complete authority to take any decision in this regard.

Chairman PLDC, Sh. Allauddin, while briefing the project informed that all residential schemes under Ashiyana Housing Project would be of the highest standard and all out basic facilities would be provided.

He said that a good location had been selected for the first Ashiyana Housing Project in Lahore which was close to the city and the Ring Road.
