LAHORE – The city markets will remain shut to condemn the barbaric killing of Governor Salmaan Taseer by a religious fanatic following the Punjab government announcement to declare public holiday on Wednesday across the province.
Anjuman-e-Tajiran Hall Road in a circular announced that the Hall Road Market will remain completely shut today (Wednesday) to mourn the death of the governor, who was assassinated on Tuesday in Islamabad.
All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajiran secretary general Abdul Razzaq Babbar said the traders will observe shutterdwon to support the decision of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif who has announced a public holiday to mourn the death of the governor.
He said though the Anjuman-e-Tajiran did not issue any circular in this regard or hold any formal meeting for the closure of the markets yet the trade bodies of every market will decide on their own to shut their shops. Further to keep the market closed is important to avoid any untoward incident, he added. Abdul Razzaq Babbar said that traders community strongly condemns the brutal murder of salmaan Taseer by religious fanatic.
He said that his assassination is a heinous crime. He said that business community demands of the government an honest, fair and just investigation of the killing.
It is to be noted that all trade bodies of the traders in city also observed a shutterdown strike on Friday last against the proposed amendment in the present blasphemy law.
The traders’ community held a shutterdown strike to protest against the present rulers who eanted to repeal the blasphemy law against the wishes of people. They said that they regretted that anti-Islam elements and their local agents were out to repeal the blasphemy laws in Pakistan to achieve their malicious goals against Muslims.
