CHIEF Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed the Lahore Development Authority to construct 10 more park and ride plazas in the City within six months after which work on two such plazas each at New Anarkali and Barkat Market will be started within next 20 days.

An LDA spokesman said the authority had planned to establish a central business district (CBD) in the City comprising Jail Road, Main Boulevard, MM Alam Road, segment of Hali Road and Sharae Noor Jehan, Gulberg, for more investment, business and employment opportunities.

Work on the first phase has already been started with the construction of first ‘Park and Ride Plaza’ at the Liberty Market.

He said the newly constructed Park and Ride Plaza on Main Boulevard, Gulberg, has become operational and hundreds of people were daily visiting the safe parking facility of international standard.

Built at a cost of Rs 677 million, this 11-floor structure has been constructed on a 3.17 kanal piece of land adjacent to the UCH in one and a half years with parking facility for 308 cars per day. As many as 80 shops have also been built in the basement, ground and first floors of this plaza along with two restaurants.

Security of the people has been ensured in this structure. Its has open stairwells and ramps, security devices such as road blockers, car scanners, CCTV, public address system, fire alarm and fire-fighting, audio and emergency buttons.

The Lahore Development Authority spokesman said the authority had approved marketing plan to sell 80 shops and two restaurants in the Park and Ride Plaza through open auction and services of MS Collier International had been acquired for the purpose. Auction proceedings will be shown live by television channels, he added.
