LAHORE (December 23, 2010) : Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that first Liberty Park and Ride Plaza equipped with latest facilities in Pakistan is a masterpiece with regard to design and construction and it can be compared to the parking plazas of developed countries.

He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of Liberty Park and Ride Plaza here on Wednesday. Senator Pervaiz Rashid, provincial ministers, members of national and provincial Assemblies and a large number of traders participated in the ceremony.

He said that this parking plaza constructed at a cost of Rs 750 million is an example for other cities of the country. He said that 80 shops have been constructed in Liberty Park and Ride Plaza, which will be auctioned openly in a transparent manner. He announced that five, out of eighty shops, would be reserved for poor and destitute families. Instructions have been issued for the construction of 10 more such parking plazas in different places of the city, which will be completed within a year.

According to him, best infrastructure is of paramount importance for the speedy development of the country and the Punjab government has paid special attention to its improvement. The earnings of poor were ruthlessly looted in the name of development projects during previous regime. They have transformed these projects of billions of rupees into the public welfare projects for the benefit of people. Lahore Ring Road was presenting a picture of ruins but today best infrastructure of the world is present there.

He said best facilities have been provided in Liberty Park and Ride Plaza, which include modern lifts, latest equipment and best security system. He said instructions have been issued for the construction of parking plazas at 10 important areas of the provincial metropolis. "Construction work of parking plazas at new Anarkali and Barkat Market will be started within next 20 days, while third plaza will be built at Mall Road," he added.

He said the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) was a dead horse in the past that has now been made a vibrant institution and it has ensured highly quality construction of Liberty Park and Ride Plaza. He congratulated LDA Director General Omar Rasool, Consultant Ahmad Mukhtar and Contractor Wasim Khan on the execution of this important public project.
