Full Version: 602 MPs including PM fail to submit asset statements

ISLAMABAD: PM Yousaf Raza Gilani and his cabinet members are among the 602 parliamentarians who did not submit their yearly statements of assets and liabilities to the ECP even though the last date of submission expired on Thursday.

The ECP had given a deadline of September 30 to the parliamentarians for the submission of their yearly statements of assets and liabilities, their spouses and dependents, a mandatory requirement under Section 42A of the Representation of the People’s Act 1976 and Section 25A of the Senate (Election) Act 1975.

ECP sources told Daily Times that out of a total of 1,170 members of the National Assembly, Senate and four provincial assemblies, 562 met the deadline and submitted their yearly statements, while 602 parliamentarians had failed to meet the deadline.

The sources said that the PM and his cabinet members including Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira, Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, Interior Minister Rehman Malik were the ones who did not meet the deadline given by the ECP.
