PESHAWAR (September 25 2010): Small & Medium Enterprise Development Authority (Smeda) will extend its facilitation services to far-flung and landlocked district of Chitral in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The authority is going to open Regional Business Centre (RBC) in Chitral to facilitate business community of the district and tape the business potential of the area.

This was stated by Provincial Chief, Smeda, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Javed Iqbal Khattak while talking to a delegation of the business community of district Chitral. Prominent social worker and former tehsil Nazim, Chitral, Sartaj Ahmad Khan was leading the delegation.

The provincial chief, Smeda said that the authority is working on the utilisation of the potential sectors and beside its regional offices in the provincial capitals of all four provinces they have also opened business centres in different cities. He said that the authority is working in collaboration with business community.

He said that the RBC in Chitral will prepare business profile of the district and its potentials as Chitral neither has Chamber of Commerce nor any association resulting in the increasing of the problems of the business community of the district. Smeda, he said after the opening of office will co-ordinate the matters relating to the promotion of business activities and will initiate efforts for the resolution of their problems at national level.

Earlier Sartaj Ahmad Khan, a prominent social worker and former tehsil nazim, Chitral said that hydropower generation, minerals, marbles, tourism, embroidery, eco-tourism and wildlife are potential sectors of the district. He said that a model marble quarry would be established in Chitral for which district government had already signed a memorandum of understanding. He said that the marble city in Chitral would have 40 marble units.

He demanded of the Smeda officials for establishment of the linkages of the business community of Chitral with market in other parts of the country to help generate business opportunities for the people of the district.
