LONDON: The wife of murdered Pakistani politician Dr Imran Farooq has appealed for witnesses to come forward with information about his killers.

Shumaila Farooq, at a news conference on Thursday told the media that her husband had been “a dedicated family man, a loving father and a loving husband”.

“Someone, somewhere knows something about my husband’s murder,” Shumaila 42, told reporters, choking back tears. “His murder a week ago has devastated me and left our family in a state of shock and disbelief,” she added, before being led, weeping, from the room by a family friend.

She begged that if anyone had any information about the murder they immediately report it police. She thanked her family members and others for their support in these difficult times.

Dr Farooq, a Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader, had been stabbed to death outside his north London home on September 16. His body had yet to be released by the authorities pending further investigations.

He had been living in the UK since 1999, claiming asylum and saying that there had been a contract out on his life. No arrests had been made so far.

London police’s Counter Terrorism Command had investigated Farooq’s killing. However, a police spokeswoman said this was because of Farooq’s political profile rather than because detectives believed the murder was a political assassination.

She declined to say whether anything had been stolen from Farooq. agencies
