LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif said on Thursday that the martial law was not the solution of the ills faced by the country and there were conspiracies being hatched against the democracy.

Nawaz said now time has come to talk about change but it should be within the boundaries of the 'Constitution'. “We would not need foreign aid if local resources are used properly.”

He was talking to scholars, writers and actors at AL Hamra Hall here Thursday. He pointed out that we lost half of the country during a dictatorial regime, while neighbouring India was developing as a major power due to continued democracy.

"I have no personal grievances with Pervaiz Musharraf but he must be accounted for what he did with the nation."

He praised former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto for signing Charter of Democracy for the sake of democracy, adding that after her death the agreement has been forgotten.
