KARACHI (September 17 2010): A delegation of World Bank (WB) on Thursday visited Karachi Custom house to review the process of customs administrative reforms.

Sources told Business Recorder that the mission headed by Tony Mort along with Wyatt Grant had met the collector, Model Collectorate of Custom (MCC) of Pakistan Automated Customs Clearance System (PaCCS), collector, MCC (Appraisement), DG, Training and Research and additional director of Post Clearance Audit (PCA) to discuss the issues related to the performance indicator, PCA, capacity building and other major operational activities.

They further said the PCA official, besides highlighting the issues pertaining to audit and its selectivity criteria, had given detailed briefing on the functions of the department. They said the officials of MCC, PaCCS had informed the mission about the MCC's future plans and the present status of its performance indicators.

Similarly, the official of MCC (Appraisement) highlighted issues regarding Afghanistan transit, operational procedures in groups & wharves, ongoing projects, etc during meeting. They further said the mission is scheduled to visit the customs operations sites at the airport and other ports on September 17 to review customs operations at ports.

The WB officials have also planned to meet the representatives of private sector including customs agents association and leading businessmen to evaluate the performance of customs automation. In addition, the mission would also meet the management of DHL to review the express courier operations and in particular customs implementation of relevant World Customs Organisation (WCO) guidelines for express operator industry.
