TEHRAN – Iran has allocated an extra $100 million aid to Pakistan, a neighboring country which has suffered 40 to 50 billion dollar in flood damages.

Following the Supreme Leader’s call on Friday for an immediate humanitarian assistance to Pakistan by Muslim countries, the government decided to allocate that sum of money to the flood-hit country, First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Rahimi told reporters on Sunday.

Ayatollah Khamenei has described the flood disaster in Pakistan as the ""most urgent"" issue of the Islamic world.

Rahimi added that the government has assigned all executive bodies to contribute aid to the flood-ridden country.

According to Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar, so far, Iran has dispatched 8 cargoes, weighting 500 tons altogether, to Pakistan and the volume will soon reach 1,000 tons.

The latest official figures show the flooding, which is the worst-ever natural disaster to hit Pakistan, has affected some 21 million people and killed over 1,760 others
